Laniado Hospital implementa innovative RFID based inventory management system in Cath-Lab

Laniado Hospital announced that the inventory management system provided by LogiTag has enabled it to control high value inventory and reduce costs by changing the way in which it purchases and manages supplies for its cath-lab. The system, consistsed of the LogiPlatform software server and 3 Smart-Cabinets with RFID over GPRS, enables the hospital to automatically and seamlessly control cath-lab inventory level and receive alerts when it is time to re-order, or when expiration dates approach. Utilizing the system, the hospital managed to improve its communication with the suppliers, thus saving money on the cost of its products.
LogiTag installed 3 RFID based Smart-Cabinets in Laniado hospital's Cath-Lab,. Each cabinet contains an HF (13.56 MHz) reader compliant with the ISO 15693 standard and GPRS connectivity to the main management system. The Smart-Cabinets include a unique RFID based access control system with an E-Lock, enabling the link between each consumed item to the relevant personnel. The solution also includes an enrollment station to create the link between the tagged item to its RFID number, and LogiTag's Smart-Reporting station that enables to correctly link items with the medical procedure there were used for. This comprehensive solution designed to enable hospitals with improved inventory control, higher operational savings and increased charge capture.
"LogiTag's Smart-Cabinet Technology is mature, and provides a comprehensive solution to hospital's needs. During the past years we studied the Cath-Labs clinical processes, analyzed the information received from our many installations and perfected our offering to cardiovascular operation rooms" Said Mr. Shlomo Matityaho, LogiTag's CEO. "When and item stored inside the the Smart-Cabinet is required, the nurse approaches the cabinet and present its employee badge. If the Smart-Cabinet approves her access (per individual permissions) it will open the doors, allow her to collect the necessary item, and when the procedure is done and the Smart-Cabinet doors are closed back, the system will report the consumption of the relevant inventory and allow us to review who exactly used it" explained Shosh, Laniado's Cath-Lab chief nurse. "using LogiTag Smart Cabinet I am able to control the inventory, monitor consumption and review expiration dates with just a few clicks" continued Shosh, "Not only that, but the system can automatically update the supplier about the consumed items, so that if the inventory level requires it - they will replenish the items in minimal time. For me, the system is like a miracle…."
"The hospital began seeking such a system several years ago, when we first started planning
major changes in how we manage and purchase catheters and other products for our cardiovascular services department", said Mr. Hamerman, Laniado Hospital CEO. "We identified several problems with the old system, problems that LogiTag's Smart-cabinets completely solved. First, it was difficult to know the exact inventory without actually counting all the stock in the Cath-Lab. Since the task is very labor-intensive and time-consuming for our busy stuff, the hospital was forced to base its inventory level on items used for patients, and on the assumption that if a particular product was not recorded as being used it was still on the shelf. Another major problem was the way cardiac products were ordered, and type of communication with the suppliers - the hospital wanted to move from regular bulk procurement to consignment stock. In order to do this move the hospital needed a software system that will enable it to manage consignment stock, and the same time create a common platform for sharing the information with the suppliers, who also want visibility for their stock, since it is stored in the hospital yet still owned by them", Mr. Hamerman said, "After testing and evaluating several solution available in the market we choose LogiTag Smart Cabinet technology, after it proved to superior."
